The starting point
Monica came into our first session with what most people would assume is enough: 25 years of legal marketing experience, including seven years as CMO of a $500M+ firm, and a thoughtful intention to take her time with what came next. She was clear on what she had built. What she didn't yet have was a clear answer to the question every senior operator faces at this kind of inflection point: what's the next chapter, and what's mine to lead?
She had spent two and a half decades helping attorneys position and sell their expertise. Now she was the one who had to do that work for herself.
That gap is the real starting point of every Fractional Kickstart engagement. The work is not about teaching senior operators something they don't know. It's about helping them turn what they already know into something a client can buy.
The work
Six sessions, eight weeks. The deliverables list ran longer than either of us expected: a 30-second story she could deliver, a Lean Canvas that priced her offer at what it was worth, an interactive lead magnet built in four hours using her favorite AI and a no-code tool, a sharpened ICP, a network map she actively uses, a $15K scope she sent a client, and the early architecture for a consulting practice with three structured tracks.
We pressure-tested that positioning in real time. Monica went to an international conference, met with legal tech companies and CMOs, and came back with observations that reshaped the rest of the engagement.
What made the work different was not the framework alone. It was the responsiveness. In Monica's words:
"You had a general program. Then you heard what I said: I need to land here, and by this date. And you were like, okay, let's retool this and get real sharp, super focused. We're going to do one thing. Then you're going to test, see what happens, and come back."
The turn
Three weeks in, Monica went to the conference and met all 13 of her pre-scheduled contacts. She came back with two observations that changed the shape of the work: most of the room was waiting for someone else to solve AI adoption for them, while a smaller group, what she called the forward-thinking few, were actively pushing change. That smaller room was where she wanted to play.
Those conversations sharpened a dual direction: legal AI consulting and a coaching/consulting practice. The insight was not that she had to pick one. It was that she had permission to build both, as long as the offers were clear.
The outcomes
By the end of the eight weeks, Monica had:
- An interactive lead magnet getting real traction across her network
- A new consulting practice with three structured tracks, first paying clients, and a launch cohort lined up
- A network map she actively uses, an offer in writing, and a 30-second story she's already tested at the conference
- Her target buyer named: the forward-thinking few who push AI adoption, not the cleanup crew waiting for it
In the same window, she was invited onto a product advisory board at a legal tech AI company and tapped to co-lead the BD Tech Track at a major industry conference in October 2026. Those opportunities came from her existing network, but the work helped her show up to them with more clarity, sharper language, and more confidence.
Why this kind of work works
"The check-ins and accountability were really valuable. The way you structured things was beneficial, even for someone who 'knows' how to do this kind of work."
That is the part senior operators most often underestimate. The Kickstart is not a substitute for what they already know. It is the structure that helps them do it for themselves while juggling everything else.
Where Monica is now
Monica is continuing the work. The next chapter is about shipping faster than she could on her own: building the automations and systems that will let her practice scale without burning her out.
Eight weeks of coaching gave her the offer, the language, and the buyer she's targeting. The next phase is about putting that into motion at the speed she wants to move, from a place of calm, focus, and confidence.
As she told someone recently:
"There's a lot of inner work in how I'm handling this transition, but there's also the very practical fact that I hired a coach who helped me be super focused."
In Monica's own words
"I came to Dina at a real inflection point. After 25 years in legal marketing, seven of those as CMO at a $500M+ international firm, I knew I was ready for my next chapter, but I didn't yet know exactly what that would look like on my own terms. I've spent my whole career helping attorneys position and sell their expertise, and suddenly I was the one who had to do that for myself. That's a different muscle."
"What stood out about working with Dina is that she didn't just run me through a canned program. She had a structure, yes, but she really listened to where I was and what I needed. I remember telling her, 'I need to land here by this date,' and she basically said, okay, let's retool this and get really sharp and focused. One thing at a time, test it, come back, adjust."
"Over eight weeks, we built a lot more than I expected: a solid 30-second story, an offer that reflects what my work is really worth, an interactive lead magnet that's getting real traction, and my first paying clients. Just as important, I walked away with a clear sense of the client I want to serve and confidence in what I'm building."
"I tell people all the time: yes, there's inner work in how I'm handling this transition, but there's also the very practical fact that I hired a coach who helped me be super focused. Dina didn't teach me something I'd never heard of; she gave my 25 years of experience the structure and language it deserved."
Are you a senior operator considering the leap?
The Fractional Kickstart is for experienced corporate professionals (product, marketing, engineering, technical leadership) who want to go independent. Eight sessions over 10-12 weeks. By the end, you'll have a clear, client-ready offer, a network map you use, and the systems to back it up.
